Winning ROTC team includes local cadets

Ben Smith of Round Lake Beach, John Clancy of Grayslake, Ryan Olsen of Elgin and Tyler Teichmann of Algonquin, all students at Marquette University, were members of the winning nine-person cadet team that participated in recent 3rd ROTC Brigade Ranger Challenge.

The Ranger Challenge, which took place at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin, is a team competition where male/female and all-female teams of cadets compete in several different areas like marksmanship, fitness, medical and obstacle course.

Cadets Smith, Clancy, Olsen and Teichmann, of the nine-member male/female cadet team from the Marquette University ROTC program, took first place among the other nine-person cadet teams.

The Marquette ROTC nine-person team will represent the 3rd ROTC Brigade at the prestigious Sandhurst military competition at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York.

The 3rd ROTC Brigade, headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois, consists of Reserve Officers' Training Corps Programs at universities and colleges in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan (Upper Peninsula), Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa.
