Wilmington car crash kills teen, injures brother

WILMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A 14-year-old girl was killed and her 16-yearold brother was seriously injured when the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a tree on their way to Wilmington High School.

Cory Ann Tebbens of Wilmington died Tuesday night at a hospital due to injuries sustained in the crash. She was a passenger in a vehicle driven by her brother, who was taking her to color guard practice, which started at 5 p.m.

According to Police Chief Phillip Arnold, both teens were wearing seatbelts and the airbags deployed, but it appears the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the gravel roadway and struck the tree.

Arnold said Wednesday that the brother was in stable condition in the hospital's intensive care unit.
