Aurorans aim to promote peace

Community peace and goodwill events are set for Aurora Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24.

The public is invited. Admission is free. The events celebrate national Make a Difference Day, Oct. 24.

At 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, Aurorans Peggy Hicks and Connie Evans with Aurora Police Chief Greg Thomas will discuss peace and goodwill among people at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 420 W. Downer Place in Aurora. A light meal will follow the speakers' statements. The event will close at 7:30 p.m.

According to Aurora residents John S. Douglas and Veva R. Walton, the presentations will highlight the importance of peacefulness and goodwill on the community.

A peace and goodwill walk from the church to downtown Aurora and back to the church is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday. A lunch and participants' reflections will follow the walk.

They said, "An objective of the walk is to build and maintain a more peaceful environment for Aurora. Hopefully, this will spread to other cities one at a time to make the world more peaceful."
