Father of slain 3-year-old Chicago boy released on bail
CHICAGO (AP) - The father of a 3-year-old Chicago boy who was fatally shot by his 6-year-old brother as they played "cops and robbers" has been released on bail.
Twenty-five-year-old Michael Santiago has been charged with felony child endangerment in the shooting Saturday night that killed his youngest son, Eian Santiago.
A judge agreed to $75,000 bail and Santiago was released Monday.
Police say Santiago told investigators he was a former gang member and felt he needed the gun to protect his family. The older boy knew that his father kept the gun on top of the refrigerator. He retrieved it and accidentally shot Eian in the head.
Santiago is scheduled to return to court Friday.
