Wheeling nets regional final appearance

Nick Janulis scored a first-half goal with an assist from Josh Mariscal to help Wheeling to a 1-0 victory over Class 3A boys soccer regional host Grayslake North on Tuesday.

Juan Salgado stopped 5 shots for the Wildcats, who advanced to the regional championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.

St. Viator, Deerfield postponed: Inclement weather postponed the second scheduled matchup at Grayslake North on Tuesday.

Fifth-seeded Deerfield, the Central Suburban League runner-up, will face No. 12 seed St. Viator at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winner advances to a regional final against Wheeling at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Leyden 3, Prospect 1: The host Eagles earned a spot in the regional final Saturday by ousting the Knights.

Leyden will face No. 14 seed Chicago Lane, which eliminated No. 3 seed New Trier 4-2, in the regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday.

St. Charles North 4, Rolling Meadows 0: The North Stars got all their scoring between the 42nd and 73rd minute in regional semifinal play at Millennium Field in Streamwood. St. Charles North meets Bartlett, a 1-0 overtime winner against West Chicago, in Saturday's 3 p.m. regional final.

Wheaton Academy 5, Hoffman Estates 1: The defending Class 2A state champs advanced to Friday's regional championship round at Conant.

St. Charles East 2, Conant 1: The fifth-seeded Saints knocked out the ninth-seeded Cougars to earn a spot in Friday's 6 p.m. regional final against No. 4 seed Wheaton Academy.

Glenbrook North 3, Maine West 0: The Spartans eliminated the Warriors in an all-CSL North matchup at Glenbrook North. The regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday will feature Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South, which topped Maine East 2-0 on Tuesday.
