Nothing unbiased about this survey
Attached are copies of the flyer that was sent out to all Prospect Heights residents who currently don't have access to Lake Michigan water. It appears to have been paid for by the city government (aka the residents of Prospect Heights) as well as endorsed by them.
As you can see, it starts out with a loaded question - "Would you be in favor of having a reliable safe city water system?" (please, we all want reliable and safe water, as well as safe neighborhoods, and honest politicians) and deteriorates from there.
Does this read like a fair and non-biased presentation of the debate between Lake Michigan water and well water? Not to my eyes, it doesn't. Is there any mention at all of the cost of installing and maintaining access to lake water? Or any mention of the daily cost of purchasing lake water by the gallon? Not a word. In fact, it reads like this wonderful Lake Michigan will be free to all.
We have lived in Prospect Heights for over 23 years now, and have seen this debate (no, this push) for Lake Michigan water pop up about every five years, each time endorsed by the elected officials of Prospect Heights.
Each time the residents have had a chance to vote on the issue of installing lake water, the proposal has been defeated, due to the high cost. But in all of these years, this is the worst piece of propaganda that we have been subjected to (totally one-sided, no facts, no mention of cost) and I am furious that the city officials have allowed and encouraged this.
