Bitta, Borzick earn CCIW men's soccer acclaim
Two former Lake County soccer players recently stood out in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
And the CCIW officials made sure they stood out with honors.
Carthage junior forward Austin Bitta (Libertyville) and North Central sophomore midfielder Jon Borzick (Lakes) were named men's soccer players of the week.
Bitta scored an unassisted goal in the 94th minute to lead the Red Men to a 2-1 overtime victory at Illinois Wesleyan as Carthage extended its unbeaten streak to six and remained undefeated in the CCIW (2-0-0).
Borzick helped lead the Cardinals to a 1-0 shutout of North Park, giving them their first CCIW victory of the season. He helped keep the conference's leading goals scorer Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh without a goal in a match for the first time all season as North Central also held the Vikings scoreless for the first time in 2015.
