Jacobsen wins twice at New Trier; Stevenson wins own invite

Barrington senior Kirsten Jacobsen met the challenge from some of the state's toughest competition on Saturday at New Trier's Trevian Relays.

The three-time defending state champ in the 500-yard freestyle won that event in a season-best 4:55.79. Jacobsen also had the fastest time in the 200 free, 1:51.75.

Other top performers for Barrington included sophomore Maggie Emary, who finished fourth in the 500 free (5:03.25) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:13.39), and senior Sara Kate Capel, who finished seventh in the 50 free in a clocking just off her lifetime best, 24.60.

Stevenson Invitational: The host Patriots took top honors, getting victories in two relays and individual triumphs from Casey Kirby in the 100 back and Iza Pelka in the 200 free to finish with 317 points.

Second place went to Lincoln-Way East (256), followed by Plainfield (175.5) and Palatine (162).

Kirby won the backstroke in 59.17, and Pelka took the 200 free in 1:58.48.

Kirby joined Ashley Carollo, Danielle Fang and Rachel Song on the winning medley relay (1:50.09). The Patriots' winning 400 free relay was Song, Pelka, Irune Andres and Kirby in 3:40.17.

Other key finishes for Stevenson came from Song in the 100 fly (2nd, 58.18), Kirby in the 100 free (2nd, 54.22), Carollo in the 100 back (3rd, 1:01.02), Fang in the 100 breast (2nd, 1:08.85) and Morgan Bosse in the 200 free (3rd, 2:01.46) and 500 free (3rd, 5:27.60).

Palatine took top honors in the 200 free relay, where Ellis Nelson, Tess O'Brien, Kelsey Hank and Kristin Anderson finished in 1:40.85.

Anderson placed second in the 50 free (24.54) and third in the 100 free (54.28), while Nelson was third in the 100 breast (1:11.11) and 200 IM (2:12.60).
