Pumpkinfest still makes kids smile at Didier Farms in Lincolnshire

Students from St. Emily School in Mount Prospect laughed and pointed at the monsters and skeletons that suddenly appeared in the cornstalks Wednesday as they took a hayride during Pumpkinfest at Didier Farms in Lincolnshire.

"I live for this time of the season," said farm owner Rick Didier. "It's my favorite. I love the smiles on the kids. Every year we try to expand it, but the hayrides and pony rides are a tradition."

The 23rd annual festival features hayrides, camel and pony rides, a corn maze, petting zoo, food, children's rides and pumpkins. Lots of pumpkins.

"It's a great place for the kids," Kristine Tagbo of Mount Prospect said as she walked with several kindergartners around the farm. "The hayride is probably their most favorite. That and the animals. Being able to see them and get hands-on experience is a great part."

Pumpkinfest is open daily at the 102-year-old family-owned farm, 16678 Aptakisic Road. from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. through Oct. 31.
