'Cubs Way' prevails over Cards, and suburban fans at Wrigley really believe

Fans in Wrigleyville celebrated the "Cubs Way" last night after their team laid the Cardinals' postseason run to rest. This comes just over six months after the Cubs opened the season with a 3-0 loss to the Cardinals at Wrigley Field. "I was here when they opened the season against the Cardinals, and I'm here when they finish the Cardinals' season," happy Cubs fan Greg Zalewski of Wheeling said at Wrigley. Full story.

Suburban fans awash in Wrigleyville celebration after Cubs win

After the Cubs' electrifying victory last night, thousands of jubilant fans gathered outside Wrigley Field, making the intersection of Addison and Clark perhaps the happiest and most crowded place in the city. The crowd buzzed with excitement as people slowly made their way out into the mild October night, a large percentage stopping to take selfies in front of Wrigley Field's iconic red marquee that flashed "CUBS WIN." Woman killed while crossing road in Beach Park

A 57-year-old Beach Park woman using a walker was killed Tuesday night while crossing Sheridan Road after being struck by a car near Beach Road in Beach Park, authorities said.

The crash occurred at 9 p.m. The woman was struck by a 2009 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

A preliminary investigation determined the woman and a friend tried to cross Sheridan Road from east to west after buying two bottles of vodka from a nearby gas station, according to a Lake County Sheriff's Office news release.

Sheriff's deputies attempted to revive the woman using CPR and an automated external defibrillator (AED) device until paramedics arrived. She was taken to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The gas station clerk said the woman may have been intoxicated while at the store, authorities said.

Toxicology results for the woman and the driver are pending and no charges have been filed at this time.

The woman's identity is being withheld pending family notification. The sheriff's office Technical Crash Investigation Unit is investigating.

Several accidents are slowing down traffic on westbound Bluff City Boulevard and Raymond Street in Elgin, on Ingalton Avenue in West Chicago, on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway eastbound near Route 53 and Rohlwing Road in Elk Grove Village, and on Kingery Highway southbound at Route 64 and North Avenue near Elmhurst. Lake County police assist in capture of Wisconsin murder suspect

The Lake County sheriff's office yesterday assisted in the capture of a Wisconsin murder suspect. Andrew Obregon is a suspect in the September killing of Tywon Anderson, who was found dead in a Kenosha County cornfield Sept. 26. Full story.

Naperville man faces charges after falling asleep in fire station

A 26-year-old Naperville man faces trespassing charges after Naperville firefighters woke Saturday morning to find him passed out in one of their recliners. Zachary Long, of the 500 block of Big Horn Road, is charged with criminal trespass to real property and criminal damage to property. He was released Saturday after posting bail. Full story.

Schaumburg man charged after September robbery of Lisle Dunkin' Donuts

A Schaumburg resident was taken into custody yesterday by Lisle police after a September robbery of a Dunkin' Donuts in Lisle, Lisle police said. Marziani is facing one charge of robbery, among other charges. Full story.

Classes, sports resume in McHenry 156 post teacher's contract deal:

Details of a new three-year teachers' contract in McHenry Community High School 156 show teachers would receive step increases of 3.6 percent in the first two years and 1.8 percent in year three of the agreement.

The district would put an end to the salary structure in year two of the new contract.

Teachers not on the step salary schedule would receive base pay increases of 2.3 percent, 2 percent, and 2.1 percent, respectively. For more contract details, visit dist156.org.

The school board is expected to formally approve the agreement at its Monday, Oct. 19, meeting.

The eight-day strike began Oct. 1. Classes for the district's 2,500 students resumed Tuesday.

The football game against Huntley High School has been rescheduled for Saturday at McCracken Field. Sophomores will play at 11 a.m. and varsity at 1 p.m. Senior football players, band members and their parents will be recognized before the varsity game. The homecoming court from both schools will be recognized at halftime of the varsity game and coronation will be held at the homecoming dance at 8 p.m. at the West Campus main gym, according to the district website.

The Bulls expect to have Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson back in the lineup for today's preseason game against Detroit at the United Center.
