Glen Ellyn elementary school is 'one' again

When students, teachers and even the superintendent all wear the same T-shirt, the obvious explanation is that educators are trying to build school spirit.

But it's really a celebration, and the clue to it all lies in the words on the shirts: "We are one."

For the first time in well over a decade, students and their teachers are in one building thanks to four new brick-and-mortar classrooms at Forest Glen Elementary in Glen Ellyn. Before, they shuffled back and forth from portable classrooms not directly attached to the school.

In honor of the addition, parents in the PTA decided on a theme for the school year - "We are one" - that captures the camaraderie from being under one roof again.

The PTA purchased the T-shirts recently worn by students and staff. Kids posed in front of the cameras, proudly holding their index fingers up in the air. And Superintendent Paul Gordon paid a visit, too.

Besides Forest Glen, new classrooms were built at Churchill Elementary this summer as part of a $15 million, multiyear project to remove the portables from elementary campuses.
