NAMI Cook County event raises record amount
The National Alliance on Mental Illness Cook County North Suburban has earned more than $180,000 - a record amount - to support programing, advocacy and help end the stigma against mental illness.
A special thank you to the Maine East alumni team that walked in honor of Dr. Steve and Karen Arkin's son, Jason, who lost his battle with his illness this spring. This team raised more than $85,000 to help NAMI CCNS continue support groups, education meetings and more to create awareness in the fight against mental illness.
Another special guest was Chicago Blackhawk Daniel Carcillo, who spoke about the new foundation he has created, Chapter Five, that will help with the mental and physical challenges that face players in the NHL.
New this year was a timed 5K run along with the 5K walk in Park Ridge. More than 500 participants either walked or ran for NAMI CCNS.
