Antioch community supports local police

A group of Antioch-area residents who became acquainted while working together at the Antioch Wal-Mart, recently hosted an appreciation event for local police.

The group began having breakfast together and discussing the community, what they would like to see happen and what they could do to contribute to the community in a positive way.

The event was planned in response to situations around the country involving law enforcement as a way to show local police there are many community members who support their work. It also was a chance to welcome Chief Steve Huffman.

All the Antioch police officers and staff were served lunch and dinner consisting of homemade items made by Abby Aguilar, Joanne Connely, Brandon Marzahl and Homar Perez Ferrer.

The department was presented with a stained-glass window made by Meloni Lindquist. It featured a blue stripe of support for the officers who serve and protect Antioch. All officers were presented with blue ribbon pins to remind them of community support.

Village Trustee Jay Jozwiak attended and had words of support the department.
