Barrington hosts annual Scarecrow Fest and contest
Scarecrow building, pumpkin painting and pony rides will highlight Barrington's 15th annual Scarecrow Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, in Memorial Park on South Hough Street.
More than 500 people traditionally attend the free event, which also will have arts and crafts, balloon animals, face painting, cookie decorating, inflatable games, Bob The DJ and children's games.
Want to build a scarecrow? The basic materials will be provided, but you can bring clothing and accessories to personalize yours.
Kooker's Restaurant will sell grilled hot dogs, burgers and brats, chips and drinks. The SweetSpot will offer an assortment of ice cream and specialty candy.
Scarecrows already are appearing throughout the village, as more than 80 merchants, offices and schools have created original scarecrows to adorn their store fronts and businesses.
Residents and visitors are invited to vote for their favorites on the village's website, www.barrington-il.gov. Click on "Quick Link - Scarecrow Voting" in top right hand corner of the home page) to see photos of all of the scarecrows.
Click on the photo of your favorite scarecrow, hit "send" and a vote will be cast. Or visit the village Facebook page and "Like" your favorite scarecrows.
Vote for as many scarecrows as you like, but only one vote per email address, per scarecrow will count.
Online voting will continue until Halloween, Oct. 31. Winners will be announced on the village website Monday, Nov. 2.
