Shatov strike gives Zenit win over Gent in Champions League
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) - Oleg Shatov's calm finish lifted Zenit St. Petersburg to a 2-1 win over Belgium's Gent in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Hulk was a constant thorn in Gent's side as the Brazilian striker set up both Zenit's goals, providing a cross for Artyom Dzyuba's 35th-minute header and playing in Shatov to score what proved to be the winner in the 67th when the midfielder flicked the ball over onrushing Gent goalkeeper Matz Sels.
Belgian champion Gent enjoyed the lion's share of possession and scored a 56th-minute equalizer when Sven Kums' cross found Thomas Matton at the far post.
Hulk forced a spectacular save from Sels with a powerful 88th-minute free kick.
The win lifts Russia's Zenit to the top of Group H with two wins from its first two games.
