Indianapolis police: 2-year-old girl fatally struck by SUV
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police say a 2-year-old girl has died after being struck by a teenage driver in a car wash parking lot.
Police said in a statement Sunday that officers responded around 6 p.m. to a report of a child struck by a vehicle. Officers found the girl in the parking lot. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say a 17-year-old driver was there to pick up his paycheck.
The teen told police he saw children playing in the parking lot and stopped his SUV to allow them to move. Thinking his path was clear, the driver proceeded but hit the girl.
Police say the teen immediately stopped the vehicle and is cooperating with the investigation.
It's not believed that drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash, but the teen was taken to a hospital for standard blood testing.
