Tentative deal between teachers, Dist. 204
Teachers in Indian Prairie Unit District 204 who have been working under last year's contract now have reached a tentative agreement with the district, officials said Thursday.
Roughly 2,000 teachers in the Indian Prairie Education Association are expected to vote on the tentative pact Oct. 2. If teachers approve it, the school board could vote on it Oct. 5, according to Doug Eccarius, associate superintendent of human resources.
This is the second tentative agreement the two sides have reached to replace a contract that expired June 30. Teachers in May overwhelmingly rejected a tentative deal that could have taken effect July 1.
That deal would have given teachers raises in each of the next two years, but would have eliminated post-retirement insurance and the 6 percent raises teachers generally receive in their last years of employment.
Details of the new tentative agreement were not available Thursday.
Teachers union representatives and the district, which includes 28,500 students from parts of Naperville, Aurora, Bolingbrook and Plainfield, began negotiating again in mid-August.
Scheduling conflicts among teachers, administrators and union representatives prevented talks from beginning any earlier, leading teachers to begin the year working under the expired contract.
