Main Street railroad crossing repairs begin in Glen Ellyn

The detours are back.

Just as drivers began enjoying the new Crescent Bouelvard after a roughly $3.2 million reconstruction this summer, another major roadblock has popped up a few blocks away in downtown Glen Ellyn.

Union Pacific is removing and replacing the railroad crossing on Main Street, a nearly two-week project that will close the area to both pedestrians and drivers.

In what the village describes as a major replacement of the crossing, the repairs are expected to be complete by Saturday, Oct. 3. Then the crossing will reopen.

For now, drivers can use either the Prospect Avenue or Park Boulevard crossings as alternatives.
