Sept. 24: Come to Engineering Night at College of Lake County

Anyone wondering what it takes to become an engineer or what the profession entails is invited to the College of Lake County on Thursday, Sept. 24, to learn about careers in engineering and computer science to meet with representatives from area engineering schools. The event begins at 6 p.m. in Room C003 on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Engineering Night is part of the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Speaker Series, which is free and open to students of all ages as well as interested community members.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Because of construction, attendees should enter the B Wing and sign in at the lower level of the C Wing, outside the auditorium (Room C005). As they arrive, students can sign up to attend up to three presentations by various engineering colleges and universities.

From 6-7 p.m., students can mix and mingle with professional engineers to learn about the various engineering professions such as civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, etc. At 7 p.m. in C005, keynote speaker Dr. Peter Nelson, dean of the College of Engineering at University of Illinois-Chicago, will present "Engineering and Artificial Intelligence in the 21st Century."

During the remainder of the evening, 7:45-9:15 p.m., students and their parents may visit classrooms to learn more about the college and university programs. Representatives from area schools will include CLC Engineering, Illinois Tech, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Bradley University, Michigan Technical University and others. Information on the UIUC Engineering Pathways partnership with CLC will be presented as well.
