Sign up for programs at South Elgin Parks

• Klub Friday Night Volleyball: It will be offered from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 25 at Kenyon Woods Middle School. The cost is $5 at the door with a KFN ID and $20 without an ID. ID's can be purchased at the village hall. The cost is $15 for residents and $20 nonresidents. Pizza will be sold for $2 a slice.

• Youth & Middle School Basketball: Kids from kindergarten through eighth grade must sign up by Friday, Sept. 25. The first game for all programs will be Dec. 5. There will be an additional $20 fee after this date. For pricing and more information, call (847) 622-0003 or visit www.southelgin.com. Middle School registration deadline is Oct. 19.

• Babysitting Certification: Become a certified baby sitter. The class will cover security in a home, games to play, how to change diapers, fun snacks, information parents should give to a baby sitter, first aid, feeding a baby/infant and American Heart Association CPR certification for infants and children. A graduation ceremony will be held on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. and we ask parents to attend. Each participant needs to bring a doll to class. Classes will be held at Fire Station #2 at 2055 McDonald Road, hosted by the South Elgin & Countryside Fire District and South Elgin Police Department. Fees for residents is $30, while the fee for nonresidents is $36. The first class will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The second, and final class, will be held Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• After Shock: After Shock is a recreational after school program for Corron Elementary and Elgin Area District U-46 students held at Corron Elementary School. Participants meet for attendance, have a snack, begin to complete their homework for the day and participate in various recreational activities. There is a $25 nonrefundable family deposit required at the time of registration. Punch cards must be purchased prior to the first day of school. After Shock follows the District 303 school calendar for start/end dates as well as days off throughout the school year. On days that District 303 is not in session, U-46 participants will be at the Municipal Annex. The cost is $160 for a 10-day punch card for Corron students and $180 for a 10-day punch card for U-46 students. After Shock ends at 6 p.m. each day.

• All Star Sports: Classes started Sept. 8. There are a variety of sports available: Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Baseball, Baseball/Football and Floor Hockey. Class descriptions and schedules are available in our seasonal brochure.

• Budgeting for Fun: Budgeting is not fun; however, it is an essential piece of any savings plan. We will discuss ways to help reduce debt, analyze expenses, and potentially increase savings. In addition to outlining your own budget, we will also review tips on how to stick with your budget since that is the hard part! Presented by Mike Fulkerson a Personal Financial Advisor and Accredited Wealth Management Advisor designee. Classes will be held at the Municipal Annex, starting Sept. 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The fee for residents is $3, while the fee for nonresidents is $5.

• Bow Making Basics: Are you all thumbs when it comes to making a bow? Then this workshop is for you! Learn the basics of how to make a bow so you can adorn packages and gifts with a lovely, finishing touch. Learn to work with wired and unwired ribbon. There is no fee for this class. Classes will be held at Visiting Angels, 65 Woodbury St., starting Sept. 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. This class is free.
