St. Viator looks to regroup against undefeated Joliet Catholic

Joliet Catholic (3-0, 1-0) vs. St. Viator (1-2, 0-1)

at Forest View

When: Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Last year: Joliet Catholic 28, St. Viator 24

Outlook: After last week's 45-28 loss to Marist, the Lions are looking to regroup. Unfortunately, they find themselves against one of the area's top teams, one St. Viator has never defeated. The Lions came very close last season to ending Joliet Catholic's dominance over them last fall, with JCA rallying late in the game to win, thus leaving the Lions still in search of a victory over the Hilltoppers after 24 meetings. St. Viator hopes that this may be the year to turn the tables, and will need to have another big game from running back Joey McIntyre, who has rushed for 306 yards. But can the Lions contain Hilltoppers running back Michael Johnson, who has rushed for 619 yards so far this season?

Benet (2-1, 0-1) vs. St. Patrick (2-1, 0-1)

Game time: 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Hanson Stadium in Chicago.

The quick hit: Benet was within 20-14 against Notre Dame but couldn't overcome 5 turnovers. On the bright side, Benet's getting consistent line play from Jack Stephens and Brendan Brackin. St. Pat's quarterback Patrick Devlin is the focus of Benet's defense.

Marian Catholic Spartans (1-2, 0-1) at Carmel Catholic (0-3, 0-1)

When: 7:30 p.m., Friday

Last week: Marian Catholic lost to Marian Central, 56-16; Carmel lost to Joliet Catholic, 41-21.

Skinny: Carmel is essentially in must-win mode, especially since, on paper, this is a team that it would appear that the Corsairs can beat. Marian Catholic has surrendered 91 points in its last two games. Carmel scored only 2 touchdowns in its first two games before scoring three, including two by Rondel Jamison, against Joliet Catholic. For the season, Jamison has rushed for 303 yards (6.3 avg.).
