Memorable win for Antioch
Luke Semitka scored a highlight goal, Marni Polakow recorded a milestone win, and Antioch's boys soccer team rallied to beat Grayslake North 3-1 in nonconference action Wednesday.
Semitka scored on a free kick in the second half to snap a 1-1 tie. It was his seventh goal of the season.
"Luke Semitka's goal was probably the best free kick I have ever seen in a high school soccer game," Sequoits assistant coach Matt Bohmann said.
The win for Antioch (5-4) was the 100th for Polakow in eight seasons as boys head coach. Gabe Tijerina scored off Danny Brito's 11th assist of the season to even the score, after Grayslake North led 1-0 at halftime. Tijerina set up Zach Espitia's insurance goal.
Grayslake North got its goal from Sean Dameron on an assist from Kyle Hensley.
Round Lake 6, Lake Forest Academy 2: Freddie Ramirez scored 4 goals, all in the second half, to lift the Panthers to the nonconference win.
The goals gave Ramirez 14 for the season.
Christian Vazquez and Christian Gomez also scored for Round Lake. Gomez and Luis Aguilar had assists.
Libertyville 3, Solorio 0: On Tuesday night, the host Wildcats won the Pepsi Showdown game, receiving all 3 of their goals from Nathan Edmunds.
Darrin Ioss had an assist for Libertyville (4-1).
Brant Kim and Thomas Pearson shared the shutout in goal for the Wildcats.
