The second annual Mighty Vike Homecoming Hustle 5K fundraiser for the Geneva Academic Foundation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The event will include a 5K Run/Walk, a one-mile Run/Walk, a Junior Jog for ages, 9 and younger, and a Toddler Trot for ages, 5 and younger.

All races will begin and end at the Geneva High School athletic stadium. Registrations are underway. Preregister by visiting tinyurl.com/gafhomecominghustle. Simply select the link to complete your registration. All registrations received by Sept. 18 will receive their T-shirt for the day of the event at a pre-race package pickup to be held at Geneva Running Outfitters in Geneva, a couple of days prior to the race or at the event on race day. Those who register after Sept. 18 may pick up their T-shirts two weeks after the event at Geneva Running Outfitters.

Live music for the event will be provided by Geneva band North of Center. There will be outdoor games for both kids and adults and participants are encouraged to attend and run in costume. They will be judged in the Best Costume Contest. There also will be contests for the school with the Most Runners and the Alumni Class with the Most Runners.

"The GAF is excited about hosting our second annual GAF Mighty Vike Homecoming Hustle 5K fundraising event," said Jeff Vekony, foundation president. "Our first 5K event included our entire community! We enjoyed the support of students, parents, families, teachers, alumni and Geneva community members, many of whom participated as runners or walkers. We love being part of the annual Geneva Homecoming weekend festivities."

This event would not be possible without our very generous sponsors. The premier sponsor for this year's 5K is BMO Harris Bank.

"Partnering with our community is a very important part of our culture," said Bill Johnson, market president for BMO Harris Bank. "We are proud to provide financial support for the GAF's Mighty Vike Homecoming Hustle 5K fundraiser this year and we also plan to have BMO Harris employees there to help support hosting and participating in the event."

The GAF, and its Endowment Fund, are vital partners with the Geneva Unit District 304. More than $1.2 million in grants have been funded since the inception of the GAF. The fund helps continue to support, in perpetuity, students and schools by purchasing items that are not supported by tax dollars.

Geneva Academic Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization formed in 1987 by a group of parents to fund grants to teachers, schools or organizations. The grants must enhance the educational experience of students in the District 304. In addition, the foundation awards two $1,000 college scholarships to Geneva High School seniors.
