Columnist misses Davis' point

In the Sept. 6 Daily Herald, Connie Schultz wrote an unfavorable column about Kim Davis, the Kentucky woman who went to jail rather than cave on her religious convictions regarding gay marriage.

I take issue with Schultz on her rather nasty statements about Davis. Ms. Schultz, you assume she is doing this to gain national attention. I disagree.

Davis, who has had what sounds like a rather sketchy past, has turned her life around, has become a devout Christian and is living accordingly. Why would she want such attention, plus jail time?

I support Liberty Counsel and am happy they are helping her.

You call her a fool and a hypocrite. Harsh, Ms. Schulltz, for one who has all the trappings of a liberal elitist snob. You also call her a bigot - name calling is a typical liberal response to someone they don't agree with - but being against gay marriage does not make one a bigot. It's the redefining of marriage that she disagrees with, not the gay individuals.

Lastly, her stance on gay marriage has no relevance to the racial inequality of the '50s ad '60s. The color of a person's skin has nothing to do with character, integrity and the love of God. Same goes for gays. The difference lies in the chosen lifestyle.

Gays have usurped the term, marriage, that is and always has been reserved for a man/woman union. I do not judge the gay individuals as you most certainly judge Kim Davis, but I do think the gay movement has taken a wrong direction.

And I know that Kim Davis' actions represent many of us.
