Watch for road closures during Fox Valley Marathon
The Fox Valley Marathon will be Sunday, Sept. 20, from 7 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m. The marathon will begin in St. Charles on First Street near Illinois Street. The run continues south to Aurora before returning to the finish line back in St. Charles on the Illinois Street bridge.
Several roadways in St. Charles will be affected by the marathon:
• First Street, between Illinois Street and Indiana Street, will be closed beginning Saturday, Sept. 19, at 5 a.m. for set up.
• Both the Prairie Street and Illinois Street bridges will be closed during the entire event Sunday. Motorists are advised to use either the Main Street (Route 64) bridge or the Red Gate bridge.
• The race begins at 7 a.m. Sunday traveling south on First Street to Geneva Road (Route 31). Geneva Road will be reduced to one lane and then detoured to Anderson Boulevard in Geneva.
• As the runners return to St. Charles, now on the east side of the river, traffic on Riverside Avenue (Route 25) will be reduced to one lane between Moore and South Fifth avenues.
Police and emergency management personnel will be positioned at key locations to assist with traffic direction. Motorists are advised to expect delays when traveling throughout the city. Police remind drivers to watch for runners, spectators and emergency responders assisting with the event.
In addition, the Fox Valley Kids Marathon will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. The Prairie Street Bridge will be temporarily closed at the start of that event; however, the closure is expected to be less than 30 minutes.
