Clerk can't put beliefs above the law

I am very upset about what is happening in Kentucky concerning the county clerk who is refusing to follow the law and issue marriage licenses to all.

Kim Davis claims that her religious beliefs prevent her from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples, yet she continues to hold her job. If I refused to do the duties of my job, I would be fired, but because she is elected, that can't happen.

What she is trying to do is create a theocracy in this country, where religious law trumps secular law. Examples of theocracies are Saudi Arabia, Iran and even the Vatican.

The United States is a country that was created on the premise of religion NOT getting into government. Our founding fathers stated very clearly that they did not want any one particular religion taking precedence or having the power to control government and laws.

Davis' actions are a deliberate effort to make her religious laws the law of the land. This is not even a little bit acceptable. I am quite sure that she would be highly upset if a Muslim clerk or Jewish clerk in some other county decided that the laws of their religion should override United States law and she would have to abide by their beliefs.

She and her followers must be made to see that the laws in this country are for all people, of any religion or even no religion. Our legal system can not, should not and hopefully will not allow her or anyone like her to undermine the basic concept of the separation of church and state in this country.

No exceptions. It is the only way to prevent discrimination based on religion, which is why this country was founded in the first place.
