Special Olympics athletes earn medals in tennis

Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County Special Olympics athletes Emanuel G. and Christian T. competed at the Special Olympics August State Tennis Tournament in Frankfort.

Emanuel took first place in his division, earning a gold medal. The 2015 tennis season was the first for Emanuel, who competed in the Individual Skills competition. This was Christian's sixth year participating in Special Olympics Tennis; he also participates in Special Olympics volleyball, track & field and basketball.

Christian competed in the Level 5+ Singles competition, where he earned a fourth-place finish.

Competition to go to the State Tournament was determined by a random drawing after the District Special Olympics Tennis Tournament was canceled due to high heat indexes.
