Dundee-Crown looks for revenge against Morris

Morris (1-1) at Dundee-Crown (1-1)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Last week: Washington 19, Morris 13, OT; Streamwood 28, Dundee-Crown 14

Last year: Morris 27, Dundee-Crown 0

Outlook: Dundee-Crown's defense allowed only 2 touchdowns to Streamwood last week, but the Chargers were hurt by an interception return and a kickoff return, both for touchdowns.

"When your defense only gives up 14 points you'd like to think you have a chance to win the ballgame," D-C coach Mike Steinhaus said. "You have to take care of special teams and not let teams score on turnovers. We also had penalty after penalty, which makes it hard to convert first downs. When you don't win special teams and the penalty battle, you give teams a chance to beat you."

The Chargers seek a better outcome against Morris than a year ago, when D-C traveled to Grundy County for a 27-0 whitewash.

Coach Alan Thorson's team won its opener against Chicago VOISE Academy 49-6, but they were upended 19-13 in overtime in Week 2 by downstate Washington. Morris led that game 13-0 through three quarters, thanks to rushing touchdowns by Keagan Sobol and Michael Feeney, but was unable to hold the lead.

The Morris offense has gained 547 total yards, 438 via the ground game. Junior Michael Gerischer gained 102 of his team-high 132 yards last week. Feeney, a two-way player, added 80 yards against Washington for a 2-game total of 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. "We have to stop the run defensively, first of all," Steinhaus said. "They have three very good running backs and they're very physical up front, where they try to intimidate you and control the game. We need to do a good job of trying to control that."

Next week: Sterling at Morris; Dundee-Crown at Prairie Ridge
