Trinity orchestra names new conductor

Trinity International University announces that Lindsay Riemer has been named the new conductor of the Trinity Community Philharmonic Orchestra.

Riemer earned her master's degree in conducting from the Royal Academy of Music in London. Previously, she was assistant conductor of the New Philharmonic and DuPage Opera Theatre in Chicago for three orchestra seasons and for productions such as "Tosca," Puccini's "La Boheme," "Carmen," and "Otello."

She has also served as assistant conductor for the Battle Creek Symphony Orchestra and the Michigan Philharmonic (formerly Plymouth Symphony and Orchestra Canton).

Her undergraduate studies were in viola performance at The Peabody Conservatory of Music of The Johns Hopkins University and the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has participated in master classes and conducting courses with conductors David Zinman, Larry Rachleff, Carl St. Clair, Michael Jinbo, Leonid Korchmar, and Jorma Panula.

Her primary teachers were Sian Edwards and Kenneth Kiesler.

At the Royal Academy of Music, Riemer recorded Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" and collaborated on a recording of the Walter Piston Viola Concerto with violist Clifton Harrison.

The Trinity Community Philharmonic Orchestra is a chamber-sized orchestra comprised of Trinity students and musicians from the community. Recent concerts have included works by Beethoven, Schubert, Stravinsky, Bruckner, Vivaldi and Mozart.

The orchestra performs on-campus concerts and accompanies musicals, operettas, and oratorios performed by the Music Department.

The orchestra is open to music educators, experienced amateurs, or advanced high school or university students from the local community.

Currently, there are immediate vacancies for strings, but all instrumentalists who are interested in joining the ensemble may apply. For information or to schedule an audition, contact Lindsay Riemer at lcriemer@tiu.edu.
