Mundelein 4th-graders garage sale to help fallen officer's family

The fourth-grade students at St. Mary of the Annunciation School in Mundelein took it upon themselves to organize a garage sale over the hot, muggy Labor Day weekend to raise money for the family of fallen Fox Lake police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz. The kids raised $400.

During the week, they invited their schoolmates and their families to contribute funds or garage sale items. St. Mary's is part of The Catholic Consortium of Lake County Schools.

"This whole idea was led by the students of teacher Michelle Joyce," said CCLC principal Tammy Klecker. "They created the fliers we sent home with our students and organized the sale. It's very heartwarming."
