Catchers also must play the position

With all due respect, Scot Gregor's Aug. 29 article applauding the White Sox catcher, Tyler Flowers, misses a major point.

As a former catcher myself, Flowers cannot throw anyone out who attempts to steal second base. He cannot block balls in the dirt and has allowed many passed balls. Although he may be good at signaling the pitcher as to how to pitch a certain hitter, he could do that from the bench to the existing catcher who can throw someone out at second base and not allow passed balls.

In addition, the replacement catcher will likely have a significantly higher batting average.
