Oswego man charged with attempted child abduction in Aurora
A 24-year-old Oswego man has been charged with attempted child abduction after Aurora police said he tried to lure two sixth-grade girls into his car Aug. 27.
Police said Tuesday that Alfonso C. Acacia of the 300 block of Springbrook Trail was charged Aug. 31 in connection with the incident that occurred around 8 a.m. near Best Place and Linda Court on the city's west side.
The two girls, both of whom are students at Jefferson Middle School, told police they were walking in the area when they were approached by a man in a silver sedan similar to a Dodge Avenger, who told them to get into the car.
They immediately ran toward and entered a store on the 2100 block of West Galena Boulevard. The man followed the girls to the store, police said, but kept driving once they entered the building.
No one was injured, police said.
The girls offered an important piece of evidence that led to the major break in the case when they copied down part of the suspect's license plate number, police said.
That same afternoon, Aurora police were contacted by a Montgomery police sergeant who had run the partial plate information through the department's in-house records system. One of the records came back with information on a full license plate registered to a silver Dodge Avenger owned by Acacia, police said. Acacia's picture also closely matched the description of the suspect supplied by the two girls, police said.
Aurora detectives took Acacia into custody at his residence without incident. He has since posted the required 10 percent of his bail, which was set at $10,000. His next court date is 9 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
