Heartland Voices to open 17th season in October

Heartland Voices, an Elgin-based adult choral ensemble, is excited to announce its 17th concert season.

This year, the ensemble is opening the season with its ninth annual gala, with the theme "Nothing But Nonsense," on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The show will feature songs that have always been loved and fun such as "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "It Don't Mean a Thing, If You Ain't Got That Swing" and "We Go Together."

They are very excited to announce that the special guest and honoree is Richard Pahl. Pahl has been in Elgin since 1991. Since his arrival, he has been very active in the Elgin area arts scene, particularly drama both in acting and directing. Join them in honoring Richard and his commitment to the Elgin arts community.

The gala is changing venues this year. They will be performing at the Kimball Street Theater in Elgin Academy, Kimball Street and Dundee Avenue in Elgin. The evening, which begins at 6 p.m., will include hors d'oeuvres, a wine and beer bar, soft drinks, a silent auction, and raffle. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for $50 per person can be reserved on the website at www.heartlandvoices.org.

A special preview performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Tickets to the preview-only concert are $20.

The season will continue with the Christmas concert "This Christmastide: Fa, la, la, la, la." The concerts will be 3 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at First United Methodist Church in Elgin, 216 E.
