State can show leadership on climate
Recently the EPA finalized the rules for reducing carbon emissions from power plants. Known as the Clean Power Plan, it is long overdue given the seriousness of our ever-warming planet.
After June was reported as the warmest June ever recorded, along comes a report that July was the single warmest month ever recorded. It is hard to understand why this crisis is not headline news every day until this disturbing trend is reversed.
Now Illinois has an opportunity to show leadership in the plan it develops to comply with the EPA rule. The silver lining to all this is that a sound plan will create jobs, lower energy costs and lower pollution, besides putting us on the right path to halting global warming.
All citizens should contact the governor and state legislators stating their support for clean power and less carbon pollution.
