CCLC Schools adopt ambitious technology plan
Submitted by the Catholic Consortium of Lake County Schools
The Catholic Consortium of Lake County Schools in Mundelein and Wauconda is keeping its students ahead of the technology curve with an ambitious new program that will put new computers at the fingertips of even its littlest learners.
Under the three-year plan, recently adopted by the CCLC Board, Frassati Catholic Academy students in Wauconda will transition from the MacBooks they've been using to Chromebooks during the upcoming school year. Academic and administrative staff will use Chromebooks as well.
By the 2016-17 school year, the plan will expand to the rest of CCLC's schools, St. Mary of the Annunciation Elementary School in Mundelein and Transfiguration Elementary School in Wauconda.
Fourth- and fifth-graders will begin using Chromebooks while students in kindergarten through third grades will have access to centers with Chromebooks for classroom and project use. Finally, Pre-K students will have access to centers with tablets.
In addition, all grades will see upgrades in classroom technology. This will include science lab equipment (such as projection microscopes), digital camera/video capabilities and projection/printing capabilities.
This plan continues the schools' tradition as technology leaders. In 2010, Frassati Catholic Academy became the first middle school in the Archdiocese of Chicago to bring computers to all of its students. The plan also is in keeping with the values of the school's patron, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, whose personal philosophy challenges the school to continually "reach for the heights."
"Technology is an essential tool for both our staff and students," CCLC Schools' principal Tammy Kleckner said. "Making updated technology accessible to all of our students will help us to find new ways to motivate students to learn, expand the content available to them and to respond to their variety of learning styles."
To help pay for this program, the CCLC is launching a fundraising campaign this summer: "From Learners to Leaders - Utilizing Technology to Motivate Learners and Grow Leaders." The goal is to accelerate implementation of years two and three of the technology plan. To learn more, visit the CCLC website, www.cclcschools.org, or contact one of the CCLC schools directly.
