Schaumburg library to offer citizenship classes

U.S. Citizenship Preparation Classes will begin in August at the Schaumburg Township District Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg. An identical class will begin in September at the library's Hanover Park Branch, 1266 Irving Park Road, Schaumburg. The classes meet twice weekly for 12 weeks and are free, but require registration and a green card. Registration takes place during the first class.

Classes at the Schaumburg location begin Friday, Aug. 28, in the Adult Classroom on the library's second floor, and will be from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays until Friday, Nov. 20.

Classes at the Hanover Park branch begin Monday, Sept. 14, in the Program Room and meet from 6-9 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays until Monday, Dec. 7.

Sponsored in cooperation with High School District 214 Community Education, these classes are designed to prepare students for their naturalization interview. Topics covered include naturalization eligibility requirements and process, rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship, U.S. history and civics, reading, writing and speaking English.
