Man convicted in Hampshire aggravated robbery
A Winnebago County man has been convicted of robbing a man he knew after the two had arranged to meet in Hampshire.
Jose G. Trujillo, 33, of the 100 block of Metal Mark Lane in Roscoe, was convicted Tuesday by a Kane County jury of aggravated robbery after about an hour of deliberation, according to a news release.
Tthe victim had arranged to meet Trujillo in the parking lot of a restaurant on Route 20 so Trujillo could repay him $100. When Trujillo arrived, he pulled his car into a parking place near the victim's car, leaned into the victim's car and implied he had a handgun, the release said. Officials said Trujillo then told the victim he wouldn't pay him, threatened to harm the victim's family and demanded money.
The victim gave Trujillo $145 cash from his wallet, and then Trujillo reached into the car and grabbed a money envelope that contained $600, said, "Later, bro," and fled, authorities said.
Trujillo is free on bail but will next appear in Kane County Court on Oct. 14 for motions and sentencing. He faces a sentence of probation or between four and 15 years in the jail.
