Melissa Lloyd Photography Exhibit at Frisbie Senior Center

During the month of September, Melissa Lloyd, a member of the Des Plaines Art Guild (dpag.org), will be displaying her photographs of the Methodist Campground, at the Frisbie Senior Center, 52 E. Northwest Highway.

Melissa is a photography and art teacher at Maine West High School. She has been creating her own images for several years, while inspiring others to do the same. She shoots traditionally, as well as digitally, using a Nikon FM2 for the traditional work and a Canon Rebel EOS for her digital work. In addition to photography, Melissa is also a ceramics artist. She is currently showing some of her pieces in local galleries. Another body of photographic work is currently on display at a local gallery, as well.

The body of work on display at the Frisbie Senior Center is titled "Methodist Campgrounds" and consists of twenty-two 11x14 black and white photos. For several years, Melissa would take her second year photo students to the Campgrounds in the fall on a field trip. This was a photographer's haven when shooting in black and white. The white cottages with green trim, with each cottage being unique unto itself. One year, Oakton Community College had a show titled Along the Des Plaines River. The photographs of thirty Maine West students were displayed in this show. Several years ago, the Campgrounds asked for her fourth year photography students to document the grounds for historic purposes. The students then developed the film and made the contact sheets to go along with the film and gave it to the Campground. Unfortunately, with all the flooding over the years, Melissa is no longer able to take the students to this favored spot.

The Frisbie Senior Center is open 8:30am-8:00pm, Monday and Thursday and 8:30am-4:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
