Barrington Area Council of Governments offers water quality testing Oct. 13
The Barrington Area Council of Governments (BACOG) will hold a private well water quality testing event on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at The Garlands of Barrington.
BACOG-area residents may purchase water-testing kits the week before at participating BACOG village and township offices, then bring them to the Garlands, 1000 Garlands Lane, Barrington, between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Oct. 13 for testing by the Lake County Health Department. The cost is normally $16, but residents taking part Oct. 13 will be charged $12.
Water samples will be tested for coliform bacteria, E. coli and nitrate. These contaminants can cause illness in humans, and the test is recommended annually for all private wells.
The BACOG communities with private wells are the villages of Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, and South Barrington, and Cuba and Barrington townships.
For more information or a list of locations where testing kits can be purchased, visit bacog.org or call (847) 381-7871.
