Heartland Institute opens in Arlington Heights
After 31 years in Chicago, the Heartland Institute has moved its headquarters to Arlington Heights.
The Heartland Institute describes itself as a "think tank devoted to discovering, developing and promoting free-market solutions to social and economic problems" and lists among its top priorities opposing the Common Core education standards, repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, opposing high taxes and regulations and being skeptical that global warming is a major environmental issue.
Heartland has about 35 employees and thousands of supporters contributing to the nonprofit's $4 million budget. The group no longer lists its donors because of backlash against them, according to its website.
The Heartland Institute will have a grand opening celebration at its new location, 3939 N. Wilke Road, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 22 with tours, music, food and giveaways.
No one at the organization returned calls asking for more information.
