Worship Service Featuring Mozart's Requiem
August 23 is Swan Song Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Heights. "Swan Song" is the name of the final sermon in a year-long series, called The Black Swan, by Rev. Alex Lang, pastor at First Presbyterian. The series, about the life of Jesus according to the book of Mark in the Bible, will end with this final sermon and a presentation of Mozart's Requiem at a special service in the sanctuary from 10:30 am to noon.
Music for the service will be presented by Adam Hendrickson, the church's director of music programs, and Dr. Alan Wellman, the church's associate director of music, who will lead combined choirs and chamber orchestra in a beautiful presentation of Requiem, one of Mozart's final compositions.
Hendrickson's vocal, instrumental, and leadership skills run the gamut from opera to classical to pop, blues, and rock and roll. His professional experience also includes singing with the Chicago Opera Theater and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
Wellman has an extensive background in choral conducting, sacred music, and music education. He also serves professionally as the artistic director for the Northwest Choral Society and teaches at The Catherine Cook School in Chicago. The voices and musicians assembled for the special August 23 service will be exceptional.
The "Swan Song" sermon and theme will also be presented in the church's modern worship service, called finding grace, but will feature modern music by its worship band, Compass. This service will also take place at a special time on August 23, from 9:00 to 10:00 am in the chapel.
The community is invited to participate in either or both services for a message of hope through word and music. First Presbyterian is located at 302 N. Dunton Ave. in Arlington Heights. To learn more, visit www.fpcah.org or call 847-255-5900.
