Jane Addams' portrayal marks club's anniversary
The Glen Ellyn Woman's Club begins a yearlong celebration of its 120th anniversary with actress Annette Baldwin presenting "Remembering Jane Addams" at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Glen Ellyn History Center, 800 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn.
Social reformer Jane Addams was chosen as an appropriate subject because of the club's history as an active, progressive and philanthropic organization in Glen Ellyn.
Addams was among the first generation of college-educated women in America and was admired and respected for her stand that inequities of human life must be brought to balance.
She is best known for her establishment of Chicago's Hull House, organized to alleviate poverty and cultural deprivation, and was a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
The club invites League of Women Voters, Glen Ellyn Wheaton Community Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago, Reliquarians, and other guests to attend. The presentation is free.
