Gurnee's lifeguards best in competition:

Gurnee Park District lifeguards have extended their winning streak to seven years in a statewide competition. Officials said Gurnee was among the participants in the Illinois Park and Recreation Association's annual Lifeguard Games last week at Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park in Bolingbrook. It allows the lifeguards an opportunity to showcase many of their rescue skills in a nonemergency, yet highly stressful competitive environment. For the seventh consecutive year, the Gurnee guards and junior lifeguards took first place in the state. There were about 30 lifeguard and junior guard teams entered.
