Funnel cloud reported near Grayslake

Several streets are closed in Grayslake after a possible funnel cloud touched down Sunday night causing widespread damage.

High winds damaged the roof of Grayslake Central High School, officials said, and toppled large trees and power lines, officials said.

Officials said there are no reports of injuries.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Ricky Castro said the area was hit with winds of up to 60 mph along with hail and lightning.

Lake County sheriff's detective Chris Covelli said there was extensive damage and police have closed numerous roads in unincorporated areas because of downed trees and power lines.

Earlier Sunday, large hail was reported in Carol Stream, Bartlett and at O'Hare.
