Dr. Hue Luu debuts the latest advancement in joint replacement surgery - the Stryker Mako robotic-arm assisted technology - at a free arthritis seminar at University of Chicago Medicine. Susan Van Veen, 67, of Woodridge, was the first patient to have a Mako surgery at UChicago Medicine. She was up and walking less than 24 hours after her hip replacement procedure. Van Veen previously had a conventional hip replacement and experienced a more lengthy recovery process the first time around. UChicago Medicine is currently the only medical center in the city of Chicago with a Mako system, which allows surgeons to develop a customized surgical plan for each patient.
