Attend Veterans Driver's License Event Aug. 3
The Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission, in collaboration with the Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White's Office and the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs, will host a Veterans Driver's License Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 at the Veterans Assistance Commission, Kane County Government Center, Building A, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.
This is a convenient "One-Stop Shop" opportunity for veterans to obtain a new driver's license or state ID card with the "Veteran" designation on it.
A Veteran Service Officer from the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs will be on hand to certify your DD-214 and staff from the Secretary of State's Mobile Unit also will be on-site to issue driver's licenses and state ID cards. If you miss this event, you will have to make separate visits to an Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs Office and then the Department of Motor Vehicles to get the veteran designation.
Note that there are specific service requirements for the "veteran" designation.
There are fees associated with this, which are listed below. If you are just updating your driver's license, it will cost $5, but if you are due for a renewal it is $30. You also may need a separate form of identification.
Veterans designation starts July 1, 2015.
There are three steps for U.S. military veterans to obtain a veteran designation:
