Bookscapes to bring a book to life starting Aug. 1
The community is invited to see a book brought to life! From Aug. 1-8, Bookscapes will bring the book, "The House I'll Build for the Wrens," to life on the south lawn of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 357 Division St. in Elgin. Join this free, fun event for children from kindergarten through sixth grade.
Bookscapes is an interactive way to get children excited about reading and help them get ready to go back to school. A huge nest to sit in and read, birdhouses, and big flowers will spring up on the lawn. It is entirely free and open to all the children in the community. Each day will have a main activity such as making bird feeders, garden stakes, building a wren house. Books will be read to the children each day and coloring pages, word searches and mazes will be available. There will be a different craft each day and the children will have a chance to add to a mural. There will be lots of books for kids to read on their own or with their family. One day will be a special preschool day. The Gail Borden Public Library van will be here on another day.
The schedule will be: making a nest magnet from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 1; building bird feeders from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 2; making paper plate birds from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 3; building bird feeders from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 4; making garden stakes from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5; making bird airplanes and learning to draw birds from 3 to 7 p.m. Aug. 6; building wren houses from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 7; and live raptor birds from 3 to 4 p.m. Aug. 8.
