It all adds up to misplaced priorities

I just read that Algonquin wants to build a bike path for $712,000. Did I read last year that Algonquin laid off three firemen because there was no money?

Living in Elgin, I have no opinion on this bike path. But seems like a lot of money to spend when probably only 1 percent of Algonquin residents use the bike paths.

The typical argument is the funds come from a different pool then the funds to pay the firemen or other bills.

Seems that whether it is gas tax, sales tax or property tax, the money always comes from taxpayers.
