Schaumburg Boomers host All-Star Game

Schaumburg Boomers fans will see some familiar faces on the field for the West Division in Wednesday's Frontier League All-Star Game as four players from the hometown team were selected to play.

The Boomers' top hitter, Jordan Dean, is set to bring some firepower to the West's lineup in his second consecutive All-Star Game appearance. The second baseman is hitting .319 this season and was also selected to compete in the Home Run Derby on Tuesday night.

Boomers veteran catcher Michael Valadez and rookie outfielder Craig Massey are the other hometown sluggers selected for the game. Like Dean, Valadez was an all-star in 2014 as well. Massey is hitting .307 in his first season in the Frontier League.

Pitcher Eddie Cody will represent the Boomers on the mound, although Rockford Aviators right-hander Tony Rizzotti was chosen by West manager James Frisbie to start the contest. Cody's 2.63 ERA ranks fifth in the league.

The All-Star Game begins at Boomers Stadium at 6:30 p.m. today.

In addition to a postgame fireworks show, the event will also feature Birdzerk, ZOOperstars and the Jesse White Tumblers. For tickets ($10 reserved, $7 lawn), visit boomersbaseball.com or the box office.
