Gurnee police crackdown results

Gurnee police on Tuesday announced results from a special safety campaign. Officials said the effort ran from June 22 through July 5. During that time, two drug- or alcohol-related arrests were made and 45 seat belt citations were issued from the 54 vehicles that were stopped at a checkpoint, officials said. Funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Gurnee police crackdown was conducted in an effort to remove drunk and drugged drivers from roadways and to increase seat belt compliance.
